Diligentia

Theater Diligentia historic facade on Lange Voorhout Den Haag

Diligentia is a beautifully preserved monumental theatre on the historic Lange Voorhout in the heart of Den Haag, with a remarkable history dating back to 1561, when the building was first constructed as a patrician residence. Acquired in 1804 by the society Diligentiâ — formally the Koninklijke Maatschappij voor Natuurkunde — it has hosted lectures, classical concerts and performances ever since, and was granted the royal "Koninklijk" predicate in 1953. Today the theatre is the Netherlands' leading stage for cabaret and stand-up comedy, while remaining a uniquely characterful and elegant venue for corporate hire.

Diligentia hosts corporate receptions for up to 500 guests, with a plenary session in the historic theatre hall and a well-appointed dinner served in the foyers. The theatre hall itself is wide and shallow in shape — only fourteen rows deep — creating outstanding sightlines and an intimate connection between speaker and audience from every seat, along with beautiful acoustics. On arrival, guests step into an open, light-filled reception space flanked by a bar and cloakroom, with a central glass-roofed Atrium providing natural daylight. Additional spaces include the elegant Stijlkamer (suited to ceremonies), the upper foyer for presentations, and two floors available for breakout workshops. The ground-floor Theatercafé, with cosy seating for 20, doubles as a drinks venue for 40 or a breakout room.

The building's distinctive mix of antique and modern architecture provides a flexible, atmospheric backdrop suited to a wide range of corporate formats — from gala receptions to brainstorms — and the venue's dedicated event manager works closely with clients to shape the programme to their needs. Diligentia is fully wheelchair accessible and centrally located within walking distance of several parking garages.
