The Cruise Terminal Rotterdam is one of the most evocative event locations in the city. Located on the Wilhelminakade on the Wilhelminapier, from 1873 to 1970 this building was the arrival and departure hall of the Holland America Line, from where steamships such as the SS Rotterdam and the SS Statendam carried hundreds of thousands of emigrants to New York. At the time, the quay earned the nickname 'zakdoekjeskade' (handkerchief quay), because families waved off their departing loved ones. The distinctive roof of six cylindrical concrete shell vaults with an 18-metre span was the first use of this type of construction in the Netherlands and has since become a national heritage monument.
Today the Cruise Terminal combines its function as a passenger terminal for international cruise ships with that of a versatile event location. The more than 4,000 m² of flexibly arrangeable space is divided into 5 parts that can be hired separately, with a capacity of 100 to 3,000 guests per part and a total capacity of up to 2,750 guests. Ceiling height varies from 4 to 8 metres. The largest single hall seats up to 1,000 guests in theatre and dinner layouts. The more than 100-metre-long glass façade offers a spectacular view over the Maas and the Rotterdam skyline, both by day and in the evening.
The location has its own technical production team that develops a bespoke lighting and sound plan for every event, including technical drawings. Sustainability is a high priority: the building is cooled with water from the adjacent Maas and heated with district heating based on residual heat. With around 250 parking spaces directly beside the building and excellent access by metro, tram, bus and water taxi, the Cruise Terminal Rotterdam is the ideal location for large-scale conferences, trade fairs, gala dinners and company parties for international groups.
