Van der Valk Hotel Volendam sits at Katwoude on the dyke between Volendam and Monnickendam, looking out over open polder and the Markermeer, about half an hour from central Amsterdam.

The bedrooms have been rebuilt to a new Deluxe standard, many of them with a balcony, a smart television and a bath, and the public rooms include Restaurant ZYLT, a patisserie and cafe, and a lounge bar built around an open fire.

The setting is the point of difference. This is the postcard Netherlands that international clients arrive expecting, with Volendam harbour, Marken and Edam within a few minutes and the Zaanse Schans a short drive west, yet with Amsterdam close enough for a city programme in the same itinerary.

Van der Valk Hotel Volendam carries eleven versatile meeting and event rooms, all recently rebuilt, plus the outdoor location De Zegen for events held in the open polder landscape.

The rooms are photographed and offered in the full range of layouts, from a boardroom for a small executive group through U-shape and school-room settings for working sessions to theatre style for a plenary, and the larger spaces convert to banquet rounds for dinner or to a standing reception for the evening. Several look directly out over the polder, which gives a working session a view most conference rooms cannot offer.

De Zegen extends the offer outdoors, which suits an incentive group looking for a barbecue, a country reception or a team activity in a genuinely Dutch landscape rather than a hotel car park.

For an international delegation the combination is unusual: a full meeting operation with an authentic Dutch waterfront setting on the doorstep and Amsterdam within about half an hour by road.
