Van der Valk Hotel Amersfoort-A1 stands on the Ruimtevaart directly beside the A1, in what is close to the geographic centre of the Netherlands and about as easy a place to gather a national delegation as exists.

The hotel offers comfort and luxe room categories alongside suites, and its Restaurant Cocotte handles everything from breakfast service to group dining. The surroundings are quieter than the motorway position suggests, with the Amersfoort woods and the Utrechtse Heuvelrug close by.

Amersfoort itself is one of the better-preserved medieval towns in the country, with its canals, the Koppelpoort water gate and the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwetoren, and it makes an easy and rewarding half-day for an accompanying programme.

Its position is the practical argument. Sitting on the A1 in the middle of the country, it is the natural choice when delegates are travelling in from every direction rather than flying into Schiphol, and there is generous free parking for coaches and cars.
