Hotel Flora Batava is an idyllic boutique hotel set within Buitenplaats de Vijverhof, a historic country estate on the banks of the river Vecht at Nieuwersluis, a short drive from Breukelen in the province of Utrecht. The estate traces its story to 1670, when Agnes Block founded the Vijverhof and became renowned for cultivating rare plants, among them the first pineapple to fruit in the Netherlands, an achievement that earned her the nickname Flora Batava. The monumental villa at the heart of the hotel is a protected national monument, and the grounds, gardens and waterside setting lend the whole property a sense of calm that feels a world away yet sits within easy reach of both Amsterdam and Utrecht, roughly twenty-five kilometres from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

The largest room, Herolt, measures eighty square metres and seats up to fifty guests, while Merian offers seventy square metres for up to fifty, and the more intimate Withoos covers thirty-nine square metres for groups of up to fourteen. The tea house on the water adds a characterful forty-four square metre space for up to forty guests, and the private dining room seats up to thirty, with Restaurant Bloei able to host seated dinners for as many as eighty.
